Name the prepared items you want to keep
Give each prepared signature, initials image, or stamp a recognizable name. Use an organisation set when it helps distinguish similar items, and keep a separate variant for another ink colour. A library full of unnamed blue stamps is harder to review than “Studio invoice stamp — blue” and “Studio invoice stamp — original”.
The developing Paperkiss library stores prepared items locally, including their master image and editing settings. It offers names, type, favourites, and organisation sets. Changing a saved library item does not retroactively change artwork already placed in a document. When you need to update a current document, review and replace that placement deliberately rather than assuming the library edit updates every earlier use.
Distinguish local protection from a portable backup
Library records and saved drafts use local encryption with a key protected through Windows storage. A portable library backup uses a separate password so it can be imported on another PC. Knowing the Windows account password is not a substitute for remembering the backup password, and a copied application-data folder is not the documented transfer workflow.
Paperkiss is still in development. Its implemented backup flow asks for a password and confirmation when creating a backup. The interface explains that this password cannot be reset. Choose a password you can retain securely and store it separately from an exposed copy of the archive. An encrypted backup still needs sensible storage and access handling.
Create a backup before changing computers
Open the library backup menu and choose the protected-backup export action. Enter and confirm the chosen password, select a destination, and wait for the operation to complete. Keep the exported backup as a separate file with a useful date in its name. Avoid overwriting your only earlier backup before you have checked the new one.
Before retiring the original PC, confirm that the archive can be opened with the password you recorded. Use the import review to inspect the expected item names and count, then cancel if you are only checking the archive. Keep the working library and original backup intact until the destination library has been reviewed. Do not treat an export success message alone as a complete migration check.
Review conflicts before importing
On the destination, choose the protected-backup import action and enter its password. The implemented flow decodes and validates the archive before presenting an import review. It identifies conflicts such as an existing item ID or an identical image, and lets you keep both, skip an entry, or explicitly replace where offered.
Keeping both is the current default for copies. Read the preview before changing that choice: similar names can refer to different versions of a signature. After import, inspect several important items, including a colour variant and a stamp with small text. If the preview reports that the library changed, reopen the archive and review again instead of relying on an earlier set of choices.
Keep document projects outside this backup plan
The library backup does not contain saved document drafts. A draft has a different purpose: it keeps a local copy of a document and its placed elements, including entered text, selected dates, and formatting settings. The library backup is for reusable items. Importing it on another PC does not restore your in-progress agreements or their placements.
Export finished document copies separately and keep any originals needed for your own records. PDF passwords are not stored in Paperkiss drafts, so reopening a protected document can require its password again. Before deleting anything from the old computer, make a checklist of library items, completed outputs, source documents, and local drafts. Confirm each category separately rather than assuming one archive contains them all.
Questions and answers
Can a forgotten backup password be reset?
No reset is provided in this workflow. Keep the password safely and verify it before depending on the archive for a transfer.
Does the library backup include my document drafts?
No. It contains the reusable library, while saved drafts and completed document exports are separate. Plan their retention independently.
Will editing an imported item alter an earlier PDF?
No. Existing placements use their own artwork snapshots, and exported PDFs are separate files. Review a new placement explicitly when you need a revised item.
