Person typing beside a notebook of reusable writing instructions
Editorial illustration.

Save the instructions you repeat in ChatGPT as a text snippet, give it a trigger, and expand it in the message box. Add the current task and source material afterwards. A shortcut reuses your instructions; you still decide what to send.

This works well for a stable request such as checking an email for unclear commitments or turning meeting notes into action items. It is less useful for prompts that change completely each time. Start with one repeated task.

Save the stable part of the prompt

Separate instructions from input. Instructions might specify what to check and how to present the answer. Input is today's email, document or notes. Save the former; supply the latter each time.

This is an example to adapt, not a guarantee about an AI model's answer. The visible placeholder makes it harder to forget the current input.

Create the shortcut in Chrome or Edge

  1. Install Text Replacements for Chrome and Edge.
  2. Allow it on the ChatGPT site. You can limit it to selected websites.
  3. Open the extension library and add a trigger such as ;reviewdraft.
  4. Paste your reusable instructions as the replacement.
  5. In an unsent ChatGPT message, type the trigger and press Space or Tab.
  6. Replace the placeholder, review the complete message and send it yourself.

Use Space or Tab for the initial test. In a chat, Enter can submit a message, and the extension describes expansion before sending. Do not use that behaviour to skip review of a prompt containing placeholders or private information.

Keep separate prompts for separate jobs

A single giant prompt for every task becomes awkward to maintain. Use a small set whose names tell you what result you expect. Revise a snippet when repeated answers reveal an instruction that is unclear.

Local snippet storage and chat privacy are different

According to the extension's privacy policy, snippets and typed text stay on the device and are not sent to GagarinSoft. Once you submit a message to an AI service, that service processes it under its own terms and your account settings. Local shortcut storage does not make the subsequent AI request local.

Use sample text for testing. Check your organisation's rules before including customer records or internal documents. Keep passwords, access tokens and personal account details out of reusable prompts.

If the shortcut does not expand

Check that the extension is enabled for the current site and is not paused. Try a short test snippet in an ordinary text field to separate permission problems from prompt length or editor behaviour. Browser settings pages and Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are documented exceptions; do not assume every browser surface accepts expansion.

Chrome explains site permissions in its extension management guide. Grant access to the sites you need rather than expanding access to solve an unrelated problem.

Back up instructions after they prove useful

Export the library as JSON or CSV when you have a set worth keeping. Review exported prompts for private data before sharing them. The same snippet file can also be imported into Text Replacements for Windows for use in desktop applications.

Frequently asked questions

Does the extension run the AI prompt?
It inserts saved text. The AI service handles a message only after you submit it.
Can I keep the snippets on my device?
The extension stores snippets locally. Submitting their content to a website is a separate action governed by that website.
