Privacy Policy
How the Text Replacements extension for Chrome and Edge handles your shortcuts, settings and the text you type.
This Privacy Policy applies to Text Replacements for Chrome and Edge, a browser extension developed by GagarinSoft that expands short shortcuts into full text while you type. It does not require an account and contains no advertising or analytics.
Information Stored by the Extension
The extension keeps the following in your browser's extension storage on your device. It is not synchronized to other devices or sent anywhere.
- Your library: the shortcuts and replacement text you create, import, edit or delete.
- Settings: trigger mode, delimiter and emoji options, theme, pause state, and the websites where you turned replacements off.
- Usage counters: whether onboarding was completed, which starter catalog version was offered, and the number of expansions, used to show a one-time suggestion.
Removing the extension deletes this data. Files you export are saved where you choose and are not read again unless you import them.
Text You Type
To recognize a shortcut, the extension reads the text just before the cursor in the text field you are typing in, on the websites you allowed. This happens in memory on your device at the moment you type. The text is not stored, logged or transmitted, and is discarded right away.
When a shortcut matches, the extension replaces it with your replacement text in the same field.
Passwords and Sensitive Fields
The extension never expands shortcuts in password fields. It also skips fields that websites mark or name as card number, card security code or one-time code fields. A website can build a field in a way the extension cannot recognize; you can pause the extension with Alt+Shift+P or turn it off for that website.
Permissions
- Access to websites (requested only when you choose, for all websites or one website): to recognize shortcuts as you type in text fields.
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your library and settings on your device.
- Scripting: to run the shortcut recognizer only on the websites you allowed.
- Active tab: to show in the toolbar popup whether replacements work on the current website.
Third Parties and Links
The extension contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code and makes no network requests.
On Windows, the extension shows links to GagarinSoft's Windows apps in the Microsoft Store. A link carries a campaign identifier naming where it was shown (for example, the toolbar popup) and in which browser store the extension was installed; it contains no personal information. After you click, Microsoft's privacy policy applies.
Google (Chrome Web Store) and Microsoft (Edge Add-ons) may collect installation and usage statistics about extensions under their own policies. GagarinSoft receives only aggregated numbers such as install counts.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children
The extension collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy changes, the date above is updated. If the extension's handling of data changes, the policy is updated before that version is published.
