The record of when a trading alert fired is the platform's own alert log. TradingView keeps one and can export it to CSV, but as of October 2026 it deletes entries after 30 days. A notification log on your Windows PC adds a second record: when the alert reached your screen. Export both into a journal and treat the platform's times as authoritative.
This guide is about record-keeping. It is not financial advice and says nothing about when or whether to trade.
Start with the platform's alert log
In TradingView, every triggered alert goes into the Alerts Log, and the Options menu there can export the log to a CSV file, according to TradingView's alert management help. Alerts run on TradingView's servers, so they keep working when the chart is closed.
The log is not permanent. As of October 2026, TradingView deletes triggers older than 30 days and keeps only the latest 100 triggers for each alert. Export it more often than that, for example once a week.
Note the time zones. The pop-up and the log show your operating system's time zone, while the exported CSV uses UTC, as TradingView explains in its time zone article.
TradingView also has a notification schedule. Outside it, delivery is blocked on every channel, but the trigger is still recorded in the log. An alert you never saw can still be in the log.
If you trade through a broker's platform, find its own alert, order and trade history first. The broker's confirmations and statements are the record of what was executed.
Let the alert reach Windows
TradingView's Show Pop-up action needs your browser's permission to show desktop notifications, according to its alert setup guide. Turn on that action for the alerts you want recorded, then allow notifications for the site:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Notifications, then add the site next to "Allowed to send notifications". Google describes this in Chrome Help.
- Edge: select View site information to the left of the address bar, then under Permissions for this site set Notifications to Allow. Microsoft's Edge support page notes that website notifications also appear in the Windows notification center.
Create a test alert you expect to fire soon and check that it reaches Windows Notification Center. In Notification Logger it is listed under the browser's name, not the site's. If you use a platform's desktop app, run the same test: only alerts that reach Notification Center can be recorded.
Keep a searchable record on the PC
Notification Logger saves each Windows notification it receives with the sending app, the text and the time. Search for a ticker or an alert name to list every time it arrived; the search covers notification text and app names. The search guide covers patterns.
Two settings matter for a journal:
- Settings > General > Clean notifications older than. The default is 14 days. Set it longer than the gap between your journal reviews.
- Favorites. Select the alerts you acted on and choose To favorites. Cleanup never deletes favorites.
The Time column shows hours and minutes. The CSV export includes seconds.
Flag specific symbols with keyword alerts
In Settings > Alerts, turn on Show toast alerts for keywords and enter your keywords, separated by commas, semicolons or new lines. When a newly recorded notification contains one of them in its text or app name, Notification Logger shows its own notification with the keyword and the original text.
- Matching ignores case and uses plain text, not regular expressions. A short keyword such as SOL also matches "solution". If your alert message shows up in the notification text, a distinctive tag such as #journal added to the message works better.
- The keyword alert comes after the original notification. It does not make alerts arrive sooner.
- If you protect Notification Logger with a PIN, keyword alerts appear only while the app is unlocked.
Export to a trading journal
Download the trading alert journal template (CSV). Each row holds one alert you want to remember: platform, symbol, the alert's name or condition, the firing time from the platform log and its time zone, the time it arrived on the PC, what you checked in the platform, your decision and an order reference.
Fill it from two exports:
- The platform log CSV. This is the authoritative firing time; in TradingView it is in UTC.
- The Notification Logger CSV, from Export > CSV file. Its columns are NotificationDate, App, IsFavorite and NotificationText. NotificationDate is this PC's local time with no time-zone marker, for example
2026-10-11T14:30:02.1170000.
The Notification Logger export contains every row that matches the current search; the Date and App column filters do not narrow it. Search for your tag or ticker before exporting to keep the file short.
Convert both times to one time zone before comparing them. In an invented example, an alert fired at 13:30:00 UTC and reached a PC set to UTC+1 at 14:30:02 local time: the gap is about two seconds. Large or irregular gaps point to a PC that was asleep or offline.
Know what the record cannot tell you
- The notification time is when the alert reached your PC, not when the price crossed your level. It can lag the market event. The platform's log is the record of when the alert fired.
- Notification text is a snapshot. Before placing or changing an order, open the platform and check the current price and your position there. Never act on the notification text alone.
- Any website you allowed to send notifications can show a banner that looks like an alert. Do not sign in through a link in a notification; open the platform yourself. Remove permissions you do not recognize using the browser notification guide.
- Exports can contain symbols, positions and balances. Keep them out of shared or synced folders unless you mean to share them.
- A record of alerts is not a record of trades. For taxes or disputes, use the broker's statements and confirmations.
