MD Factory converts EPUB, FB2, and MOBI books to Markdown on your Windows PC. Add a book or a folder, choose where to save the result, and click Convert. EPUB and MOBI files must not be DRM-protected.
The result is useful when you want to search a book alongside your notes, collect references for a project, or read selected chapters with an AI tool. Keep the original ebook for checking quotations and reading its original layout.
Choose the books to convert
Start with one book you know well, ideally one with footnotes and illustrations. Convert it and check those parts first.
| Format | What to expect |
|---|---|
| EPUB | Chapters in the book's reading order, with text, links, and available images. |
| FB2 | Book text and chapters, including notes and embedded images. |
| MOBI | Text, links, and available images from books without DRM. |
MD Factory does not remove DRM or accept AZW files. If a book is protected, look for an unprotected download offered by its publisher. Renaming a file extension does not change its format.
Markdown keeps readable text and structure. Books with carefully positioned illustrations or complex page designs need a closer check because the Markdown view will look different.
Convert books with MD Factory
- Add your EPUB, FB2, or MOBI files. Add a folder if you want to convert several books.
- Choose an output folder where you can find the finished files.
- Click Convert and review any files that need attention.
- Open a finished Markdown file in your notes app or Markdown viewer.
Each book gets its own Markdown file. MD Factory saves images in a folder beside it. Your original files stay unchanged.
When you move a book's Markdown file into your notes, move its image folder with it so the pictures remain available.
Check chapters, notes, and images
Check that the preface, chapters, and notes appear in the same order as in the book.
Check that headings separate chapters, a footnote still leads to the right note, and an illustration appears near the passage it explains. For technical books, also compare tables, symbols, and formulas you plan to quote.
If you correct the converted text, keep your changes separate from your reading comments. That makes it easier to tell what the author wrote and what you added.
Use the result in your notes
Keep a separate note for each book with its title, author, and edition. Link to the converted file and record the chapter or section for each quotation so you can find the passage again.
Use selected chapters with AI
Give your AI tool the chapters needed for a specific question. Ask it to name the source and section in its answer, then check those passages yourself. Our guide to preparing documents for AI agents shows a simple folder layout and source index.
MD Factory converts locally. The AI tool you use afterward has its own data handling rules. Check those before sharing private material.
