Safety
Safe cleanup controls
- Preview and test modeThe review screen lists scope, size, file count and paths. Test mode runs the whole cleanup without changing anything.
- Protected locationsCleanup skips Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music, Desktop, Downloads and cloud sync folders.
- Age thresholdTemp files, caches and Recycle Bin items are offered only when older than 1, 3 (default), 7, 14 or 30 days. Caches of running apps are skipped.
- Re-check before removalEach file is verified again right before it is removed. Anything that changed is skipped and reported.
- Recycle Bin for duplicatesDuplicates are moved to the Recycle Bin, never deleted permanently, after a final content comparison.
- Your own exclusionsProtect folders and categories. If the protected list cannot be read, cleanup does not run.
- Irreversible actions labeledEmptying aged Recycle Bin items is permanent and marked as such. The optional Advanced system cleanup uses Windows tools and shows what cannot be undone.

Limitations
What SafeClean is not
SafeClean is not a backup tool, an antivirus or a speed booster, and it does not clean the registry. Files moved to the Recycle Bin can usually be restored until it is emptied; permanently removed items cannot.
Sizes are estimates: unreadable folders and files that change during a scan can make values lower bounds or unknown. Keep backups of anything you cannot replace.

FAQ
Questions about SafeClean
How do I free up disk space on Windows with SafeClean?
Open SafeClean, click Analyze, review the list of temp files, app caches and aged Recycle Bin items, then click Clean selected. Free space is measured before and after, and the log is saved in History. For built-in alternatives, see the free-up-disk-space guide.
Is it safe to delete temp files and caches?
Windows and apps rebuild temp files and caches when they need them. SafeClean offers only items older than your age setting, skips caches of apps that are running and checks each item again right before removal. Details in the guide to Windows temp files and app caches.
Does SafeClean delete my documents, photos or downloads?
The cleanup you review and approve never touches Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music, Desktop or Downloads. The only content a person deleted earlier that it can remove is Recycle Bin items older than your age setting, listed on the review screen. The duplicate and largest-file tools act only on files you select, and only by moving them to the Recycle Bin.
How does the duplicate file finder work?
It groups files by size, compares them, then checks full contents with a cryptographic hash. Names and dates alone are never treated as proof. Every group keeps at least one copy. See the duplicate files guide.
Can I undo a cleanup?
Not always. Files moved to the Recycle Bin can usually be restored from there until it is emptied. Items removed from the Recycle Bin are gone, and the review screen says so before you approve.
Does SafeClean work offline?
Yes. The app makes no network connections of its own, shows no ads, sends no telemetry and needs no account. Windows handles Microsoft Store licensing for the trial and purchase.
How much does SafeClean cost?
A one-time purchase of $7.99 with a 7-day trial that includes every feature. No subscription. Your local price is shown in Microsoft Store.
